Do I have to be a member to be married at Calvary?
No, you do not need to be a member. You do not need to be Christian. We believe that everyone should have access to this hidden gem of Milwaukee.
Are LGBTQ+ couples allowed to be married at Calvary?
Absolutely! We are open and affirming.
Is my wedding date available?
We do not post weddings publicly more than a few months out. Our calendar is filled on a first-come-first-served basis. Availability changes on a daily basis, so contact us to see if you chosen wedding date is available.
How do I secure my date?
Your date is secured once we receive your signed contract and have received your $500 non-refundable deposit.
How much time is included with our rental?
A booking provides you a one hour rehearsal, usually the day before, and four hours on the day of the wedding. We are flexible. We may allow you to extend the rehearsal if you are using some of that time to decorate the church.
Please note: Depending upon the date, the church may have other events outside of your block of time. For example, if you have a Sunday afternoon wedding, we will still have church on Sunday morning, and more than just your guests will enjoy your floral arrangements.
What is the capacity of your church?
We have seating for 250 individuals, however, it is possible to seat up to 350 individuals if you wish to rent chairs for your ceremony. An additional $200 will be charged if we need to move all our seating out of the sanctuary to make room.
Can I bring my own officiant?
Yes. They must be licensed to officiate weddings in Wisconsin. If they are not a PC(USA) pastor, we ask you to include their affiliation in your program.
We have a number of PC(USA) pastors who are friends of the church and love to officiate weddings here, including pastors who will happily officiate LGBTQ+ weddings. Some will provide premarital counseling if desired. Compensation for these pastors is between you and that pastor.
Is a musician provided?
The wedding does not include a musician or soloist, but you can use Calvary’s piano and sound system. You can hire your own musicians, and we have a list of musicians and soloist who regularly play and sing at the church. Our sound system can play CD’s, mp3 files, and smart phones. Your smart phone must have a micro-headphone jack.
Musicians in Milwaukee know that the acoustics in the Big Red Church are simply amazing!
Can we decorate the church?
The great thing about this church is its inherent beauty. It does not take much to make it unique to you. Our guidelines are very flexible and are pretty much limited to don’t scratch the floor, don’t put holes in the walls, and don’t start it on fire.
We highly recommend that you do not use a runner. The combination of a dress, the runner, and a wood floor can lead to an awkward entrance.
How is the church set up?
You can set-up the sanctuary almost any way you like. We have a common layout that provides an excellent view for all your guests, while as the same time provides easy access for your photographers and videographers to make that perfect shot. The wedding facilitator will take care of setting up the chairs for you.
Is there parking at the church?
Calvary has a very small parking lot next to the church that is reserved for church staff and for guests that have mobility issues and will need to use the elevator.
There are hundreds are parking spots around the church that are easy walking distance. The parking is free after 6 p.m. on weekdays and all-day on Saturday and Sunday.
Can we hold our reception at the church?
The church does not have a commercial kitchen nor are we staffed to handle a reception. There are a number of amazing places in the downtown who can host the reception. We personally recommend the Wisconsin Club which is right across the street from Calvary. They have buses that will take the wedding party to and from the church.
How much is a wedding?
A wedding at Calvary costs $1,500 for Saturday or Sunday and $1,250 for Monday through Friday. The initial $500 is required to reserve the date and is non-refundable. The remaining payment is due thirty-days before the wedding. If you choose to pay electronically, we include the PayPal fee as a convivence fee.
Why is the deposit non-refundable?
The deposit is used to pay the staff person. As a wedding is your most important day, we hire only the most dependable people to ensure everything runs smoothly. Also, as weddings are planned a year in advance, we probably will not be able to schedule a new wedding.
